We’ve enjoyed the sunshine this week! We have taken the opportunity to go on adventure walks, planting, water play experiments and much more!
The Little Forest Folk-ers have been helping Ronnie with some construction at the back of the forest! Here we have found space to build a house from sticks and string. The adventurers have been helping dig and add additions to the structure. Helping build encouraged the learners to use their imagination, the ‘house,’ has been used as an office, bedroom, kitchen, spaceship and even a dragon’s stomach! This constructive play allows out of the box thinking and problem solving.
We found a nice space in the sun to start digging to fill our trays with soil. We have spoken about plant lifecycles and what seeds need to germinate and grow. We chose to plant peas and carrots! This week, the learners were in charge of the planting process. We filled in the soil for the seeds ‘bed’, placed the seeds in cosily, covered and watered them. Our little gardeners chose the best place for the seeds to ‘wake up’ and we will continue to watch these and in 6-8 weeks we should see if our little adventurers have managed to grow and plant with little guidance!
We had a sunny car wash activity this week too! All of the cars that have been stuck in mud, rolled through puddles and missing under foliage have been washed using pipettes and measuring cylinders! We identified numbers on the cylinders and measured volumes of water. This activity developed into potion making and casting spells! We used some food colouring and soap to colour the water and add some sensory elements. The water turned pink/red which many associated with ‘boiling water,’ ‘lava,’ ‘volcanos,’ all as ingredients for potions to give fire powers, super speed, or the ability to live in a volcano and lava without being burned!
We have been practising writing our names and number formations. Using gems and watercolour to trace the shapes of familiar numbers. The gems were placed on each number accordingly. Number 1 should have, “one gem!” Familiarising with numbers and the quantities they represent!
