Fulham - Recycling Heroes

We hope you all had a fabulous Easter break! This has been a short, but rather extraordinary week. Our Little Forest Folk-ers have settled so well upon their return to the forest!

The mud kitchen has been super busy with lots of new resources and plenty of creative concoctions. The children have enjoyed making their amazing cakes, pancakes, and muffins, as well as their very special pastas and soups. Chocolate cake is of course, one of our favourite ones and the children have poured, mixed, sieved and stirred water and soil to make the silkiest smooth, super shiny ganache!

The children have been practising their problem-solving and communication skills by sharing resources and taking turns, which can be challenging sometimes. Dealing with frustration and impatience can be hard, but it helps the children build their resilience and coping skills.

This week, we have been talking to the children about recycling. After making their own different coloured recycling bin, the children learned how to identify the different materials and where to put each of them. They looked for the recycling symbol on plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, and other objects. The children talked about what happens with food waste, what happens to the planet if we are not considerate and kind to it. Helping our children raise awareness towards a healthier and more sustainable planet, is incredibly important as they are our future. They are becoming more familiar with the ‘R’ essential words - reduce, reuse, repair, repurpose and recycle! We have also read books about recycling and did some research on the internet to find out more about how it works.

In the construction area, the children had fantastic and challenging obstacle courses, which they used to enhance their balance, their navigation skills and challenge themselves further and further each time! Our adventurers keep developing a fantastic sense of awareness and self-risk assessment skills.

The children have absolutely loved the new activities we’ve introduced in the forest. The letter recognition cards and making up new words with the letters have been a huge success this week! The children have shown more interest in mark making as well, using absolutely anything to draw and write. Using their fingers on muddy bowls to write the initials of their names, or using pens, chalk, sticks on the pallets and on the ground! It’s been such a delight to see our children engaged in so many different subjects and activities!

That’s all for this week! Have a fabulous weekend everyone!
