We’ve had quite an exciting week in the forest. The holiday camp has brought new adventures, new friendships, and some familiar faces. It is always special when we see alumni back on camp!
Starting our days with the forest school rules, we talk to all the children about the importance of being safe inside the rainbow ribbons, how we need to nurture and look after our environment and most importantly, how to be kind to one another.
Our obstacle course has been really popular and challenging this week. Our Little Forest Folk-ers welcomed the holiday campers and kindly showed them how to navigate safely in the forest. The children balanced on logs, jumped from big logs and climbed on pallets with incredible confidence.
This week, we continued to do papier mache and the children had an amazing time dipping their hands in the water and glue mixture with strips of newspaper to attach to balloons. They enjoyed painting the balloons the following days with bright colours and decorating our forest with the most incredible Easter eggs for our Easter egg hunt!
The children also enjoyed using the pinion drill to make holes in three cookies and decorating them with fabulous drawings. They enjoyed observing a friend using the tool and practising the safety measures - on their knees and their hands behind their backs when not using the tool. Some cookies turned out to be a bit harder to drill than others, but with a little support, the children managed to get the cookie spinning which meant that it was finished!
We had a clay station which the children absolutely loved. They really had to use their fine motor skills to make the clay soft and easy to mould, which took a long time, but the children had a lot of fun using different tools to help them. After that, it was all about creating wonderful pieces decorated with sticks, leaves and little stones.
In the construction area, our Little Forest Folk-ers and holiday campers worked together to transform a car into a caravan, into a train, into an aeroplane, all sorts of cool spaces to fit their imaginative play. They baked and sold cakes in a bakery, fixed rockets and cars in a garage and even pretended to have sleepovers with their friends.
On our adventure walks to the site, we visited the duck family going quietly and ever so softly through the grass not to spook them away! The children also learned about minibeasts and had a chance to look for them with our magnifying glasses!
We had a slightly different day on Thursday due to the strong winds. We found shelter in a far corner of the walled garden, and we had the most amazing day. The children were happily singing and playing in the grass, and we had races, paper planes and a very special dragon kite!
We had such a wonderful time with our children, and we hope that you had a chance to hear all about their adventures at the end of each day!
Have a great weekend!
