What a wonderful week we have had in the forest with our Little Forest Folk-ers! The children have been enjoying the nice warm weather and it has been lovely to see them play.
On the robin’s side, the water station in the mud kitchen has been a huge attraction. The children loved spending their time measuring, mixing and cooking all sorts of delicious things. They used flower petals, little twigs, leaves and sparkly dust to decorate their ‘chocolate muffins with spiders web icing’, ‘vanilla biscuits with a pinch of fly wings’, and a birthday cake with extra ‘smelly sock sprinkles’! We had lots of muddy monsters this week, chasing each other and making handprints on logs, planks and trees. So much laughter echoing all around from the tickle monsters!
The children have been doing some gardening as you might have noticed, and they absolutely loved the process of mixing the soil, planting the seeds in their little pots, watering them and finally, taking them home to look after! They went on adventure walks to the walled garden to see how the radishes and carrots they’ve planted were growing. Their curiosity and understanding of how things grow and how we need to look after them is truly beautiful.
On the Magpie side, the children were busy building pirate ships and dens! Gathering long branches and planks on top of pallets and logs! Our little adventurers worked collaboratively and came up with really impressive ships.
There were also a few mud monsters on the magpies this week, as the children played in the water station and mixed the mud to create their potions and all sorts of concoctions! Afterwards, their imaginative play took them to a whole new universe. From amazing chefs, to doctors looking after patients and pirates sailing away to faraway lands.
Our older children have started to build more complex constructions by using their engineering and problem-solving skills. They were planning who was doing which task, taking turns and making decisions together. It was such a delight to see our Little Forest Folk-ers interact with kindness and thoughtfulness.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and we cannot wait to see what next week brings!
