We are almost reaching the end of summer holidays and saying goodbye to our last leavers at Fulham. The children have been making the most of each visit and they have been so happy playing with holiday campers, developing new friendships, and looking after the new Little Forest Folk-ers!
The main themes this week have been construction, experimenting with colours, looking for mini beasts and music. The children absolutely loved getting ready for a party (no adults allowed during the preparations) using benches, decorating them with chalk, making a door to open and shut using a very elaborate button mechanism! The educators needed a code and to press the correct numbers to ring the bell that opened the door! They had cakes, muffins and pancakes at the ready for their guests. When it was time to start the party, one of the children said we were missing some music so of course we had to bring the speaker and play ‘Happy’ from Pharrell! It was memorable! The children showed us their moves, the educators joined, it was amazing.
Some of the holiday campers decided to build a den in the yew tree using long branches, rope, planks and incredible imagination! The den became a witch’s hut for Cinderella’s evil sisters (our 2 Little Forest Folk-ers played the part so well!), then it became a prison for goodies because the baddies were chasing the goodies and putting them away so they could be rescued by super heroes! It was mysterious and exciting at the same time and the children had so much fun.
Our lovely Florence brought some empty bottles, which the children filled with rice, lentils, stones and leaves to make their very own shaker! Alongside our musical instruments and a very cheerful soundtrack playing in the background, everyone joined in to make glorious music that echoed through the Palace Gardens! The children have had such a lovely time exploring the musical instruments, using natural materials to create drums, and expressing themselves through movement and laughter!
We built a gigantic bug hotel and every day the children helped make it cosy and interesting for the little bugs in our forest! Putting leaves and stones on top to camouflage with the natural surroundings and hammering little sticks to fill in the gaps. The children enjoyed observing the giant insects and bugs, using a magnifying glass to look closely at their features and looking in the bug encyclopaedia to help them identify their names.
Hattie had an amazing beauty salon and the children had such a lovely time painting nails, putting ‘make up’ on and doing their hair. Face paint is very often requested by our children and they were very gentle helping each other with mirrors, brushes and looking fabulous!
Have a great weekend everyone!
