Ghouls and Games!
The glorious sun this week has brought warmth and joy to our forest. This week we have had muggy mornings and sunny afternoons, a well-deserved break from the drizzle!
The forest was spoooookyyyy come Monday, the children had been replaced by terrifying ghosts, so pale and fast, chasing the educators around camp! Our sneaky Little Forest Folk-ers were incredibly creative and used white chalk to achieve their desired ghoulish effect, thankfully there was no need for Ghostbusters!
Instead of returning as ghosts, for the rest of the week the children have been Maui’s, monkeys, ninjas, and even dragon slayers. There is nothing they cannot do! Little Forest Folk-ers and Holiday Campers were sensational at tackling all the physical challenges this week and took to trees in a flash. They expertly manoeuvred and balanced whilst ascending trees and swinging on the monkey bars as though actual monkeys! Everyone got involved, including our educators!
Inspired by the book ‘Hugless Douglas and the Nature Walk’ in which the characters must find animals and insects around the park, we took it upon ourselves to make our very own Forest Mini Beast Checklist. The children got involved, making their own lists of insects to hunt for around camp and on their adventure walks. The children adorned their magnifying glasses and checked off ladybirds, hover flies, slugs, bees and ladybirds. Some insects, like our cheeky Mr Grasshopper, were right under our noses, literally hopping by!
Creativity has been in full flow, and we have had some interesting sounds emitting our camp as the children experimented with new instruments. The main voices being the wood sounder, maracas and a newfound favourite, panpipes. Our Chiswick camp has never heard such an interesting expression of sound! The children have also gotten involved in more wool and string-based activities. Using string to tie sticks together, making their swords to slay the forest dragons and creating magnetic shape fishing rods, for the plentiful fish we have around camp!
We hope you have another amazing weekend ahead of you, one that’s filled with mini beasts! See on Monday!
Joke of the week:
