Fulham - Creepy Crawlies

This week at Fulham, the children have really enjoyed stopping by the adventure playground before getting to our site. It’s a chance to drop backpacks off and have a go at balancing on the logs or look for bugs and other creepy crawlies! One of the children happened upon a discovery we think David Attenborough might want to know about…an Antipede! It was seen to have sharp claws and lots of legs!

Elsewhere in the walled garden, we have noticed some pumpkins! A few of the children stopped and peered in the greenhouse window to see loads of them sitting in wheel barrows in all different shapes, sizes and colours. What’s lovely is that we’ve been able to see those same pumpkins growing in the walled garden too.

Back at our camp, the educators were inundated with requests about things the children wanted to build. The most popular by far was a waterfall. First we discussed what materials we might need to make the waterfall and once they were gathered, we experimented with ways to structure it so that water could go from the top all the way to the bottom using gravity. Katie suggested that the children could use some metal poles and left the children to fit them together. Once that was done, teamwork was needed to make a log pile high enough so that the water pipe could balance, enabling water to run all the way down into a bucket. It was an activity that through trial and error kept improving and changing as the day went on.

The Robins have been busy painting and decorating this week, using paints, brushes and natural materials to make patterns and marks. It has been lovely watching their faces as colours change when mixed together and what happens when you add mud!

As always, the Robins have also impressed us with their cooking skills in the mud kitchen. There have been some impressive items on the menu this week including eggs, cakes and even Panacotta with strawberries which many friends and educators were eager to try.

To end another lovely week at Fulham, we thought we’d share an excerpt from a poem one of the children wrote.

Master, master, ever you’ll see
And the master from the crayon in time for tea
And the master for yucks
And the master for time
And the master went…ROAR!

Now the master went roar and the wind blew wild
And the lion king cat and the king crocodile!

We hope you all have a great weekend and we will see you all next week, ready to celebrate Fulham Nursery’s 4th Birthday!
