What a wonderful week to write about this week in the Fulham forest!
We have really focused on World Booked Day this week, discussing our most favourite books, and using them as our inspiration for our activities in camp; ranging from books such as ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, ‘Charlotte’s web’ and a wonderful story book called ‘Bread and Jam for Frances.’
So, with all that said we had the best day celebrating ‘Mary Poppins’ by making some bird feeders and recreating the merry go round on camp. The children were delighted that they got to elaborate on their imagination skills and go on horse races just like in the book!
Next for another classic, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ and it wouldn’t be right unless we had our own flying car at camp! We must say our Little Forest Folk-ers absolutely loved this! We all spent a tremendous amount of time having fun pulling on the strings to make the wings move and roleplaying flying the car to lots of exotic destinations! The mud kitchen also transformed into a ‘truly scrumptious’ treat shop as we do love a role play opportunity here at Fulham!
The next story of the week was ‘Charlotte’s Web’ which brought with it some great engaging activities to support and work on our fine motor skills. A large-scale web was created and we had fun throwing little spiders onto it and seeing if they would stick. We also used some pincers to rescue little spiders and bugs from basket webs, whilst working on our fine motor skills.
Then towards the end of the week we based camp on a story called ‘Bread and Jam for Frances.’ The children absolutely loved making their own little jam treats by squishing up blueberries and raspberries and then spreading them onto some pitta and wrap breads before getting to eat them - yummy!
A week in Fulham focusing on books and our favourite stories has been amazing and we are looking forward to next week and all the fun things we will get up to then, have a wonderful weekend!
