Chiswick - We are going for gold!

We are going for gold!

Are you interested in trying javelin, tennis, hurdling, relay racing or maybe professional puddle jumping?

Chiswick’s ‘Mudlympics’ has it all! The Olympic Games in Tokyo are in full swing, and even though the time difference makes it hard for us to watch it in real time, some of us watch it on catch-up and have discussed the different sports we have seen. During our walk to the forest and morning snack we have talked about what we know about the Olympics, mainly knowing that there’s a fire and the Olympic Rings. As our Little Forest Folk-ers listed all the sports that are included, or we wish to include, in the Olympic Games, we decided to host our very own ‘Mudlympics’. Some children also spoke about the Paralympics, and how there is a sport and event for everyone who wants to join, no matter who you are.

It truly became a Mudlympiad when the torrential rain came down on us, but the rain beforehand didn’t stop our adventurers and it just made us add “Puddle Jumping” as a sport! We definitely have some future athletes among us. Everyone that participated in Chiswick’s games got to step up to the podium and get a shiny, golden medal around their necks - we are so proud of our Forest Folk-ers for their amazing sportsmanship and participation.

The beginning of this week blessed us with some very warm weather, perfect for an exploration around the gardens. We took the long way round the river, as we took a left instead of our usual right, and spotted so many different kinds of animals! The ducklings were out for a swim alongside the geese and swans, so we sat down and observed the animals’ behaviour. The ducks dove down under the water’s surface, and it looked so nice and cooling that we wanted to jump in too! However, the fence and signs around the river stop humans from jumping in as it’s not a place of swimming for us - but we did see lots of doggies going for swims that made us very delighted.

On the other side of camp, we have finally stated having Holiday Campers! There has been medal making and Olympic events going on there all week too - with a giant swing as one of the main events. We are so happy to see both new and very familiar faces with us again and we are all super excited for the start of August and all that it will bring us.

As always, a joke for your weekend laughs, brought to by one of our Holiday Campers:
“What did the chicken say to the man?”
“Go away!”
