There’s snow business like snow business!
Little Forest Folk Chiswick has braved temperatures colder than we’ve seen in years! On Tuesday we dove headfirst into a winter wonderland, almost entirely untouched, ready for our little troopers to crunch the snow beneath their feet, investigate the frozen forest and see their breath transform into steam.
With so much to see and do in the frosty forest, and armed with snacks and warming drinks, we have explored Chiswick House and Gardens, with playtime in a different place each day. On our walks we’ve been very curious about how the temperature has changed our environment; seeing how ice crystals form, sometimes climbing upwards, how the grass and mud go crunchy, the river being frozen over and the wildlife adapting to change in their habitat! Of course, we made snow angels, snowballs and snow people! With plenty of reasons to keep walking we have discovered new areas of the forest, including new corners of the deep dark woods! Someone had been making obstacle courses over the weekend and with the help of the educators, we have loved balancing on them.
Being back in the room for part of our day has been really fun, to explore resources that we have not had out in a while. We have had lots of deep role play with our cashier and kitchen set as our workers prepared food and sold it over the counter. We’ve had access to our complete library and have had lots of snuggly reading moments. We made some dragons for Chinese New Year using paper materials. Wooden towers have been built and demolished over and over, and cards and gifts have been made for Valentines’ Day.
We will end this newsletter with a quote from our favourite Scandinavian creatures - “The world is full of great and wonderful things for those who are ready for them.” - Moominpapa
We hope you all have wonderful weekends!
