Our Week in the Forest...
Another wonderful week of forest adventures is behind us!
We have been blessed with beautiful sunshine and made the most out of it by going on adventures and exploring the hidden gems of the forest. Throughout the week children started collecting various natural materials and large branches for us to create our own Christmas tree. In the following week, we will be creating some beautiful decorations to sparkle and liven up our indoor space!
On one of our adventure walks we were searching for 'animal houses' and encouraged children to spot as many natural and man-made animal shelters as possible. This then led to children discussing and thinking about the season change and discussing how animals survive the cold months of winter. We then found our own ways of keeping warm and played many running and chasing games that made our cheeks very red and put smiles on our faces.
We wanted to bring some more festivity into the forest so our lovely Jacki came up with a delicious recipe for Christmas pancakes. Our Little Forest Folk-ers made some dough and cut various shapes out of it. They then decorated their pancakes with yummy fruits and sprinkled them with coconut flakes to make it look like snow. Their tasty creations were gone in an instant which gave us more ideas of what else we could cook with the children.
Half way through the week we visited the library with some of our older children to explore some Christmas-themed stories. It gave us an opportunity to explore more letters and numbers as our older children are showing a lot of curiosity in learning them. We have been using our advent calendar to assist children in exploring the numbers and making connections between two digits.
We are hoping you are staying warm and cosy on the cold winter days and sending you a lot of positivity and warmth from our lovely forest!
