Chiswick - Scattered treasure

After being so spoiled with beautiful sunshine this week, we can hardly believe that Autumn will officially be here in the next few days. Apart from having lots of treasure laying scattered on the floor, we could easily think that July is still here, and our summer clothes can stay out for a little bit longer. Fingers crossed next week will be equally lovely and blissful!

The week has seemed to have zoomed past us and we cannot believe we are halfway through September. They say time flies when you’re having fun and we certainly have had plenty of it. From creating, counting, imagining to gardening and singing our hearts out, we could say that our week has been filled to the brim.

We seem to have a lot of love for dinosaurs on both camps so we can occasionally hear exclamations of ‘Fetch puppy dinosaur, fetch!’. A lot of our children have loved the idea of having eggs and being able to look after them, so we used some conkers as little eggs and the children quickly put them into nests to make sure they were kept warm. Once the eggs were ready and hatched some children acted as baby dinosaurs and that’s when the fetching began. The baby dinosaurs also needed feeding with the sticks and leaves serving perfectly as a snack. There were some ill and hungry dinosaurs too so the ‘dinosaur carers’ looked after them and made sure they returned to their healthy selves as quickly as possible.

Our lovely Shenay has given us lots of opportunities in engaging and exploring various shapes. We looked at each shape carefully and by using two dimensional shapes we were able to trace and draw shapes on our own. We had a go at choosing our favourite shape and sticking them on our tops, so that we could discuss with our friends which shape was the best of all. We quickly discovered that the shapes had magnets in them, so we used those to make fishing rods. We attached one of the magnets at the end of each rod as ‘bait’ and started catching the ‘fish’ that were the other magnets. We brought them all together and wondered about the magical magnets whilst waiting for our fish to be ready.

Our garden was buzzing with work this week. Our chilli plants that have been planted over the summer have now grown too big for their pots and needed repotting. Some of our little gardeners mixed the soil, scooped it into the pots, replanted the chillies and gave them a lot to drink to make sure that they adjusted well to their new homes. We then gave them new names and they are now happily sitting in our indoor space waiting to grow bigger and stronger. Autumn time also means harvest time, so we have decided to dig out our potatoes that waited in their pots all summer. The potatoes turned out to be ‘baby potatoes’, but it was equally fun to dig them out. We will be having those with our dinner whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Have a blissful, sunny and wonderful weekend and we will see you next week for some more adventures!
