Relaxing Hammocks, Safaris and Aspiring Authors!
Oh what a nice week we have had in our forest! We have channelled our inner artist, practiced our storytelling and relaxed in the warm weather like never before.
Our week started off with lovely sun to warm our forest up and make us feel like we’re on holiday. Some of us adventurers felt like we were in Africa, so our caterpillar walks to and from camp have turned into magical safari exhibitions. We saw alligators, rhinos, and gibbon monkeys! But careful, you have to take big steps over the alligators, so they don’t snap your shoes off….!
We have practiced our story telling this week, with educators transcribing our stories for us as we told them. We have talked about what a story needs and worked on following a story line with a beginning, middle, and end (and drew amazing pictures to go with it!).
Our imagination flourishes more and more every day, impressing our educators and fellow Little Forest Folk-ers with what we can come up with.
As the week went on, we saw more changes in our forest, mainly how dry the mud and grass were. It made us discuss the need of both sun and rain in order for our nature to be happy, just like we ourselves need sun and water to stay happy and healthy. Our mud kitchen turned into a bakery, specialising in making fairy dust, using the dry soil and leaves around us to get the magical mixture just right, and oh how the fairy dust worked in funny ways! It turned our educators into frogs and fish, and our friends into unicorns and dinosaurs, filling our camp and Chiswick House & Gardens with loud roars and laughter!
The beloved face paint was brought out by popular demand, and our educators painted our faces into very real looking tigers, sharks, butterflies and (despite the current season) ice queens with snowflakes.
Our hammock has been a popular activity this week, both educators and Little Forest Folk-ers relaxing in it under the shade of the trees or using it for a perfect hiding spot when playing hide and seek (our little forest adventures are really getting good at hiding now…).
As our week comes to an end, the much-needed rain is showering down and conversation sparked, our inquisitive adventures asking why it’s still so hot but all cloudy. It has been a week filled with learning about the natural world and how it works, talking about different climates and how they affect what animals can live there. We are all a bit upset that cuddly Koalas aren’t native to our forest!
We are all enjoying the slightly cooler weather at the end of our week and the rain that is promised. Have an adventurous weekend with lots of jumping in puddles and we will see you next week for even more exploring!
A favourite joke of the week for your weekend smiles:
“Why aren’t koalas classed as bears?”
“Because they don’t have the right Koala-fications!”
