Our Week in the Forest...
It’s been a very busy and creative week for us in the forest. We started it with building dens by using our team-work and collaborating skills. The dens not only kept us sheltered from the wind but provided lots of fun and ideas for playing different games. Some of us used the den as a hideout where all the ‘baddies’ were kept, for some it was a castle or a ship that helped us sail across the sea.
A large part of the week was also spent on building little houses for imaginary creatures. Our Little Forest Folk-ers used small sticks and mud to make the mini constructions and discussed what would be the best way of protecting them from the bad weather.
This week has been also a very creative time for us. We have been using natural materials to create artwork. With some sticks, leaves and stones we assembled some lovely installations on the ground. Our favourite was a smiley face made from a variety of colourful leaves. We have also continued to follow the children's interest in working with clay. We’ve seen some wonderful creations and were very impressed with how good the children are at combined the sticks and other materials around them into their lovely artwork.
Our site is visited everyday by few robins that come to say 'hi' or to find some crumbs on the ground. To encourage those visits even more we made some bird feeders. Using apples as a base we’ve put some sticks inside the fruit for the robins to rest on and then stuffed the apples with the pellets that the birds enjoy. We then hung them on the trees and now are waiting for the birds to finds their new treats. The children really engaged in this activity and were very pleased to have given something back to the nature around them.
We have spent a lot of time, in the last few days, reading stories in the forest. The books about dinosaurs and fish were amongst the most read and we loved joining in with the ‘Kitchen Disco’ story.
As much as we love challenging our brains we have also challenged our bodies. This week we had some ladders to climb on and an obstacle course to help us train our muscles. We have been exploring the gardens by going on adventure walks and spending the afternoons finding new sites where we stayed to explore and run around.
We are very excited about our new indoor space that we have already moved into. It’s very bright and spacious and we are really looking forward to making it nice and cosy so we can rest there after a long day in the forest.
Have a lovely weekend and see you all in the forest on Monday!
