Wimbledon - Glistening Frost

Our Week in the Forest...

The sun has been shining on us this week at Wimbledon, creating the perfect canvas for us to create and explore our surroundings!

Starting our week at the Scout Hut gave the children a chance to use the tarmac area as a giant chalkboard. The chalks were used to write their names, draw pictures of castles and make rainbows to walk on. Much of the play using the chalk included number games. These were where giant numbers were written on the ground and the children would have to run to the number that had been called out as quickly as possible. Not only was this a fun experience for them, it created a fun way to learn numbers for all of our children.

We have also been enjoying the different ways we can use buckets in our play. To an adult a bucket is a simple tool for carrying objects, to a child it has the ability to transform into whatever their imagine desires! One second they were drums, the next wheels for cars, then used as steps in our obstacle course.

Our days back in the forest have been made more magical with the winter sun. The mornings have been covered in a glistening frost, giving us chance to splash in the icy puddles and crunch on the frozen leaves.

As the day goes on we have chance to watch as the ice melts away and we see the small dew drops that cling onto the grass, and watch as the birds come out to find a midday snack. This bird watching led to us seeing a Kestrel, leading to conversations about the different creatures we have around our forest and how lucky we are to share our space with them.

Let’s hope the sun stays shining for everyone this weekend, and we look forward to more adventures next week!
