Well, what a week it’s been. The weather started off chilly and then as it’s has gone on, we have had some milder and misty mornings. As we’ve travelled to the forest, we have been talking about how spooky the mist is and how it’s like walking inside a cloud! Despite the cold weather, the imaginary ice-cream factory was still working in our ice cream tree and we have all been enjoying our pretend strawberry stick ice creams. However, some nefarious characters kept sneaking up and stealing some of the ice creams as they were served! We had to then chase after them and capture them.
We have been creating some beautiful alphabet cards with the children this week. We took turns naming letters and having a think about the sounds they make and what words or friends names begin with those sounds. We also had some letters drawn into the mud to match the cards to, along with this the children could stand by the letter that was for their name when asked. We then made it even trickier by having to find the letter that made the sound at the start of some simple words such as apple, ball, cat and dog. We are getting very good with our letters and the sounds they make!
The children have explored all the mini beasts they could find as we went digging in the mud and searching under all the logs and in the holes of the tree stump. We caught some of the mini beasts in little buckets and then compared them to the pictures we had to see what they might be. We found lots of worms, ladybirds, and slugs and we even found a bumblebee! We used our magnifying glasses too to investigate all the creatures and holes we found.
The tree stump was also a big focus with further fascination as the children discovered if they posted something through the holes, it would come through to the other side! We posted different sticks and leaves through the holes to our friends and even spent time writing pretend letters on leaves to post to our friends.
