Wimbledon - Santa Claus is coming to town!

We have had such a Christmassy week in the forest!

Our children have enjoyed having the chance to take part in lots of festive themed activities, including a special message from the big man himself- Father Christmas! We have been so busy this week and it’s been lovely to watch the children spread their Christmas cheer!

On the walk up to the dome the children’s faces were full of excitement and anticipation on what was coming next. We explained that because Santa is super busy this year he has sent us a very special video rather than coming to visit in person. With the lights dimmed in the dome, the message began to play and you could see the children watching in awe as Father Christmas himself began speaking to them! He told them how proud he is of them this year and how sad he is not to have been able to visit in person, but reassured them that he took a quick flight over the forest and saw the amazing climbing and fast running that they had been doing. Father Christmas then sat and read the children a story before encouraging them to join in with a round of Jingle Bells. Once this was over, he mentioned that he had managed to sneak in a present to the forest and that it was waiting for them. You could see the overriding excitement and disbelief on some of their faces that Father Christmas had been able to deliver them something!

After that amazing message our children had some fun activities to take part in. We had things such as decoration making and Christmas singalongs. Our children also decorated Christmas gingerbread and rice cakes. Watching them choose the colours that they thought were Christmassy was so lovely as they really thought about what they were doing.

We also played pass the parcel and the children loved sharing the presents that they won at the end.
It was such a fun and festive time in the forest, and the perfect way for the children to celebrate with their friends in this uncertain time!

When we were showing festive cheer, our children spent a lot of time using our mud kitchen equipment. We made lots of exciting mixtures and used it in our imaginative play. We had milkshakes and cups of tea that we used in our forest cafe. The children invited their friends to play games that were based on the things we have around us. The climbing tree provided the base for a spaceship, and everyone showed their amazing jumping skills. The children’s amazing way of using what they have around them to create games is always such an amazing thing to witness and a joy to see.

The children have also been able to go on some lovely adventure walks this week, looking at the different areas of the forest that we have and how each area differs. We looked at the different trees around and even found a Christmas tree!

It’s been a great festive week and we can’t wait for an amazing Christmas!
