Our Week in the Forest...
Imaginative adventure walks and the children leading the way!
We have truly had a week of wonder and awe as we explored our forest this week. The children have been extra imaginative on our adventure walks and have been leading the play through their ideas and directions.
One day the children decided that a Gruffalo was on the loose when we discovered a den that had been made with, what looked like, a table and chair for the Gruffalo to eat at. We therefore decided to track him through looking at footprints, measuring if they were big enough to be his, and looking at our surroundings for any damage that might suggest he had clumsily passed through the forest! We looked all over the forest but we were only able to find traces of the Gruffalo, not the creature himself.
Another day saw the children talking about dragons! These dragons had laid their eggs (acorns) on the picnic field of Chiswick House! However with the cheeky squirrels about these eggs were under threat so the children decided to start a rescue mission. They made a nest under a tree and then began transporting them to safety whilst dodging the ever confident squirrels and avoiding upsetting the mother dragons.
One afternoon whilst on a walk with our non-sleepers, we decided to challenge their directional skills. Gemma, our fabulous playworker on that day, was given the challenge to lead our walk and get as lost as possible in 60 minutes. At 60 minutes an alarm would ring and the children would then have to find their way back to our base camp! Gemma did a fantastic job of winding through all the paths and walking through the bushes and got us well and truly disorientated in the ground. We then let the children work out our way back. They used their surroundings looking for clues such as bridges, buildings and even used the maps to help work out where they were and where they needed to head. The activity was great and the children were able to help us find our way back in an impressive 30 minutes!
Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you all next week!
