Our Week in the Forest...
All about Leaves!
The forest floor is carpeted with an abundance of colourful leaves at the moment. Most of the trees have recently turned bare but the floor is glowing a wonderful golden colour!
It always amazes us how well the children use the natural resources that are available to them. With leaves the children have been getting wonderfully creative!
After clearing a clean muddy area of floor some children used tiny sticks and lots of leaves to create a mini world. They carefully stitched the leaves onto the sticks to make flowers. They built a mini house out of bark and mud and they made a swing and a slide from leaves, sticks and string. The dexterity and concentration was wonderful to watch as the children got to work independently.
One day the children worked together to build their very own super fast racing car. This involved a big group of 9 children all working together to move planks, logs, sticks and pots to build it. Directions were given to ensure that the motor was in the best place to make it go faster. The bumper, wipers, seats, wheels, windows, wipers and booster were all carefully thought out and discussed as a group.
Before the car could be driven one child decided that it needed to have grease all over the engine and the wheels to help everything move. Together they decided that leaves would make the perfect grease. They spread leaves over the engine, inside the wheels and even on the steering wheel!
The children also used leaves to create wonderful leaf pasta to offer our friendly robin who comes to visit. They curled up the leaves and rolled them up to form different shapes before placing them in the robin’s house.
With this week being Sylwia’s last before she goes off on Maternity Leave the children were very keen to pass on wonderful messages reflecting on the lovely times that they have had with Sylwia. They also used leaves to decorate baby grows marvelling at the effect they could create with paints, a leaf and a roller!
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and we can’t wait to see what creative fun we can get up to next week!
