Wimbledon - Breaking the ice

Our Week in the Forest...

This week the children have excitedly welcomed Jack Frost to the forest! With the frost covering the grass, brambles and trees, the children have been observing these changes and sharing their observations with their friends and educators around them.

Some of our favourite puddles were iced over which made a wonderful crunching sound as the children stepped on them. We broke big sections of ice to look through and saw a distorted vision of the forest before us. The excitement continued as we made our way to site to discover a frosty meadow. A space we share our snack and our stories before heading into basecamp where imagination takes over!

This week we have had several games involving policemen. We heard the children discussing where to catch the baddies and where to have their station with the jail. The police worked as a team, communicating their plans and shared in their successes and failures. They also helped to remind us all about being kind and gentle which is one of our forest rules.

Opportunities for painting and cutting have seen the children pause momentarily and represent their world through these mediums. Depicting their home, family and the forest around them helps them to developing a greater sense of being and to share their lives and what is important to them.

Keeping warm in this weather is important for the children to be happy and healthy in this environment. We do this by ensuring children have warm clothing on including hats and gloves, providing warm lunches and having hot drinks available. A Hot Ribena cafe was opened this week! It was built by the children and prices for a drink varied between one leaf and one hundred leaves.

Have an adventurous weekend and we will see you back next week!
