Happy January!
Welcome back adventurers. What a week it has been. Although it’s been a shorter week, we have seen all sides of the weather. We had ourselves a rainy day on Tuesday, mild day on Wednesday and icicle day on Thursday. Each day gives us a different view on what the forest can provide.
In the rain we stayed warm by going on adventure walks to look for mud monsters. We are sure we saw one in the pond next to the Heron having a bath! The rain is perfect weather for the ducks in Chiswick House and Gardens, and we were able to see a wide variety. The children were able to spot some swans, mallards, tufted ducks and Egyptian geese! Some children suggested the Egyptian geese might be here on holiday! We were able to compare different sizes of muddy puddles and found the biggest ones to splash and wash the mud away.
On our mild day we bathed in the rays of the sunshine and made some amazing New Year’s fireworks using sparkly pipe cleaners! Our lovely adventurers were able to create different shapes and patterns with the pipe cleaners to create different shapes!
On our icy day we saw that the puddles had frozen over and some of our Little Forest Folk-ers attempted to ice skate on the smaller puddles. We saw how beautifully crystallised the leaves were and decided we would try and make our own frozen decorations. We used an ice fuse tray and other moulds to find our favourite natural objects, leaf, petal etc. We then poured water into the mould and placed a long piece of string just over the edge. We kept them over night, and they made beautiful frozen decorations. Even though it has been getting a little colder as the week has gone on the children have managed very well. They have learnt how to make fireworks in their hands by rubbing their hands together to make the heat and then shooting the firework out of their hands!
