Chiswick - Fun and spooky activities!

Our Week in the Forest...

This week started off with a proper Autumn day as the temperature had dropped and it was time to dig out the hats and gloves once again! The children enjoyed going to Kew Gardens on Monday and were fortunate enough to explore an activity set up by Kew experts which taught them all about what grows throughout a British Autumn. They really enjoyed using the picture charts which helped them identify the differences between the plants and they were very engaged by what the experts were saying.

Throughout the duration of the week we have been exploring the theme of Halloween and introduced lots of fun and spooky activities! The children loved learning how to make their very own spiders web along with their very own spider! First we used sticks and string to create the web which aimed to develop their fine motor skills. The next step was to make their spider out of pipe cleaner and recycled egg cartons and tie them to the web. The children's focus on the activity was brilliant and the end results were very impressive!

Keeping up the Halloween theme, we also brought back the face paint! We've had a lot of scary creatures amongst us in the forest this week, including Vampires, Bats, Monsters, Dinosaurs, Zombies and the odd Unicorn and Butterfly! We even tuned into the land of magic and mystery with the support of musical soundtracks and enchanted the children's imaginations. This resulted in the children telling some wonderful stories!

Towards the end of the week, we then brought in our final Halloween activity... PUMPKIN CARVING! The children were able to investigate the inside of a pumpkin and helped scoop out slimy, gooey contents. They were very excited about their discoveries and even got to decorate some of them. Our Ed Lead Georgia even conducted some science experiments and with the help of the children, made the pumpkins erupt like little volcanos!

Happy Halloween from everyone at Chiswick!
