Another week behind us and it seems like the two months of being away from the forest is just a distant memory. The woods have given us so many opportunities for play and creativity this week and we love every minute.
We are still amazed at how all the children confidently walked into the forest and jumped straight into playing and socialising with their friends. We’ve also witnessed new friendships emerging and it’s been wonderful to see all the children being so excited about seeing their new forest buddies.
Our main excitement this week had been THE RAIN! The glorious sunshine that had been stroking our faces had been lovely, but we definitely missed the puddles! On Wednesday, after some rapid downpour we just couldn’t help ourselves and jumped straight into every water dip we could find. We have also had a lot of fun trying to remove the water that accumulated on the tarpaulins that keep us dry during our mealtimes. There was a lot of giggling and laughing and the most fun part was trying to pour water on our Educators!
The rain had awakened our creativity and problem solving – some of the children turned into engineers and tried to build a roof out of sticks and trees to keep everyone safe and dry. This turned into a wonderful den that the children quickly decorated and it became the main attraction on our camp.
With the lovely sunshine we couldn’t miss the adventure walks that are now our daily occurrence. They are always very exciting as we never know what animals we might find each day. This week we’ve spotted some heron, baby coots, some fish, tortoises and even an ELEPHANT! Although that elephant wasn’t as big as the other elephants it still was the highlight of our walk. He was cleverly disguising as a bush and made us all smile.
It’s been a very creative time in the forest too. We made some fishing rods using sticks and string, we’ve learned how to weave using paper and wool, we did some painting and created some lovely art work on the floor of the woods using whatever we could find around us. There was a lot of storytelling and reading and our favourite book this week have been “Aliens love underpants.” This inspired us to build a rocket and find the aliens around us. We’ve managed to find 12 and they were of all different colours and shapes!
We hope you had as wonderful time this week as we did and we wish you a lovely, restful weekend full of sunshine and bliss.
