An apple a day, keeps the doctor away 😊
It's nearly Halloween and it is time for everyone to make a scene!
As Halloween only comes once a year, it's very important to celebrate it in all its scary glory. Our Little Forest Folk are huge fans of this holiday and they have shown us just how much they love it by taking the initiative in all our spooky themed activities.
In the past week our Halloween decorations workshop has been working with full power, giving life to all kinds of creatures of the night. With the help of educators; Yolly, Katie and Courtney, our little adventurers used different materials for their crafts. On Tuesday the children used ginormous pipettes to colour cotton pads and turn them into scary pumpkins and ghosts. On Wednesday we continued creating more pumpkins- this time by using paper plates, scissors and paint. To add an extra spooky touch the children also made some wicked witches, evil monsters and some furry bats. We finished off this busy week by using some more cotton to give life to some spooky forest ghosts.
We bet you won’t dare to come and see our forest this Halloween!
The closer we get to Halloween, the more difficult it gets for other celebrations to stand out on our Holiday calendar. However, we always try our best and this week with the children we learnt about the National Apple Day, which is celebrated on the 21st of October.
This was first made an official event in 1990 in Covent Garden, the events for Apple Day have been celebrated every year since, and it has grown from a local event to one celebrated all over in different parts of the globe. We at Little Forest Folk also joined the celebrations by visiting the Chiswick House and Gardens allotments. Our little explorers walked among the abundant orchard trees and picked delicious golden apples. Together with Jay we had a discussion on when and how the apples grow as well as all the yummy treats we can make out of apples. On that day we took a creative approach and used our apples as “leaf” stamps. We halved and then dipped them in paint to create our personalised autumn apple tree.
Not only did we create beautiful autumn trees, but we also went for a walk and explored various plants that grow in autumn. We were so fascinated by the giant rhubarb leaves, we looked at the last surviving strawberries and raspberries, and we carefully inspected all the pumpkins in the garden, making sure they are perfectly ready for…. Guess what? – Halloween! While we were there, we also made sure all our guests at The Four Seasons Bug Hotel were having a great time. Our little explorers are working hard on getting a final fifth star for the hotel, making all the rooms extra cosy by adding lots of pinecones, bamboo sticks, straw and leaves. If you are looking for a place to send any eight-legged visitors from your home, make sure you check out The Four Seasons Bug hotel – we highly recommend it!
