Amazon adventures and circus acts
It’s the last week of having our holiday campers in the Green Parakeets, and oh what fun it has been to have them with us! This week we welcomed some dearly missed friends back for half-term fun and welcomed some brand-new faces into our forest. As always, our adventurers find the magic in everything that nature brings us, and no weather stops us from spreading laughter all around.
Our week very surprisingly started with a snowy morning, sparking conversation about what weather we usually have in April. We noticed that even though it is chillier than the summer weather a few weeks prior, the plants are still growing, and we see more flowers appear every day. Green Parakeets have been exploring different ways of swinging, with a log swing and a hammock! Our educators also had a go of course - they found the hammock so comfy we thought they fell asleep, so we had to do our best lion roars to wake them up again.
Physical Development has been a main theme this week, with the Red Robins traversing, swinging, jumping and skipping. Our traversing activity made us feel like real rock climbers, and adventurers in the Amazon Rainforest, walking over sleeping crocodiles (careful, if you fall you might squish them, and they’ll chase you!). As Red Robins were exploring every corner of the Amazon, real life Cheetahs, Dinosaurs and Princess tigers appeared out of nowhere (thank you Kate for amazing face paint!). When looking across camp to the Green Parakeets, we saw that they had turned into all kinds of animals and magical creatures too - all whilst showing us their best circus skills as they balanced across a tightrope, what a performance!
Our meadow has been a popular spot for both the Robins and the Parakeets as the sun has come to say hello again, with the forest floor turning into a huge canvas. We practiced our jumping and counting with hopscotch, explored a giant alphabet and drew around our friends as they lay down on the floor. Our creativity has shone through more than ever, and we made colourful art as we experimented with different ways to splash paint to create patterns and new colours.
As always, books and storytelling makes its way to our camps on the daily. This week our Little Forest Folk-ers have been the ones to provide the story telling, coming up with their own themes, characters and plots.
As the week comes to an end, we bid farewell to holiday camp and some Green Parakeets that are off to new adventures - we’ll miss you! To wrap this week up that brought all four seasons with it, we’d like to share our favourite Little Forest Folk song with you all:
Rain, wind, snow or sun, Forest School is lots of fun,
We’re outside and like to play,
Any weather - everyday!
We hope you all had lovely weeks too and hope you have restful weekends!
