Wimbledon - Swings and Barbecues

Swings and Barbecues

This week in the forest has been busy, filled with lots of fun and games! We have welcomed the first week of holiday campers to start the summer and it has been so lovely to see some familiar faces as well as some new faces! It has been wonderful to see all children enjoy being in the forest whether this has been to return or for their first time.

The foxes and bunnies joined as one group from the middle of the week and it has been lovely to see all of the children play together in one space. The children have really enjoyed the swing this week, whether this has been to go high, slow, fast or to spin around. We have also explored different ways of taking turns by using a whiteboard to write our names, using a timer or sand timer. This has allowed us to practice how to express that we would like a turn as well as understand where in the line we are and remember the child that will have their turn before us.

In basecamp, our Little Forest Folk-ers worked together to build a barbecue. They used long sticks to create a tepee shape before using string to create a base to act as a grill. Everyone then used paper and card to build flames. When heading off on adventure walks, the children ensured that they passed the responsibility of watching the barbecue on to the staff or children staying behind.

We also have had the return of longer adventure walks and in particular the return of adventuring to the beech tree forest. The children used their speedy legs to get there, and when arriving we explored tree trunks, built dens and climbed up and down the big hill. This week we also went on an adventure walk to the river, the children explored the riverbanks to see what creatures, insects and animals they could find before discovering the piggy train which brought fun and excitement to all. As our little adventurers continued to walk along the river, they soon found that they had created a large loop and had returned back to camp.

We have had a week of different weathers alongside a week full of fun in Wimbledon! We are excited to see what the rest of the summer brings to us!
