What a wonderful week we have had at Wimbledon!
Our children have been enjoying the wonders of Spring and exploring everything our colourful forest has to offer. We have looked at the new flowers that have grown, the bugs that are crawling around and the newly born bunnies hopping around the meadow. Everywhere is full of new life and our little explorers have jumped at any chance to see what is new around them.
This week our children have enjoyed some new games that have been brought into the forest. One of which was a giant noughts and crosses using large ropes and wooden playing pieces. This is a great way of teaching the children many skills, turn taking being one of them. It is so wonderful to watch the children play in a group and learn the idea of waiting for their turn, whilst also enjoying a new game.
We also played the Hungry Caterpillar game which involved the children reading the much-loved story, and then matching the amount of each food he eats with the numbers stick. The children loved reading along at the same time as playing the game and it then meant that they could have more of an idea of just how much food that little caterpillar ate!
We have also enjoyed lots of craft activities where the children have spent time making things that they can wear or take home to show parents. This week we made some wonderful pasta necklaces. The children each took their turn to paint pieces of pasta and then thread them onto chosen coloured string. They also had the chance to make them for others and share their creations with their friends.
We also made some artwork using food colouring and water with pipets. The children each took turns to place droplets of water onto coffee filters and watch as wonderful patterns were created. It was so interesting to see the shapes and patterns mix as the food colouring flowed across the paper, and the children made predictions of which colours would be created.
Yet again, our children at Wimbledon have thrived in the forest this week. We have also loved having some of our parents visit for Stay and Play and the children have been able to show off everything they love about their forest!
We hope you all have a lovely long weekend!
