Wimbledon - Mud, Mud, Mud!

A week of mud, mud and more mud… with a dash of sunshine ☀️

A fantastic week for our holiday campers to join us. It’s always fun to see some old faces come back and see how they’ve developed as they grow up. It’s safe to say the obstacle courses and climbing trees have had new tests and challenges!

This week we’ve had the joyous occasion of celebrating Valentine’s Day. We use our kind and gentle rule every day but celebrating love has promoted this rule even more. Discussing who we love, and how & why we love them. This inspired displays on different languages and how the word love is translated by creating a Love Tree! Our little explorers have enjoyed lots of other Valentine’s activities. The children created love wands by cutting heart shaped paper and weaving coloured string around sticks found in the forest. It wasn’t long until the children invented their own spells and cast them on their friends and educators. Some children also enjoyed making valentines cards for their family at home by using a heart shaped stamp to cut little paper heart confetti to decorate with. Once their card was painted and decorated, they hung them up to dry on the love tree. Others even made mud chocolates to fit into empty chocolate boxes. They rolled, pinched and squeezed mud into the sections which turned out to be a fantastic mould!

Another highlight this week has been showing off our children’s love for stories, may that be telling them, listening to made up ones or reading a book. Everyone enjoyed visiting ‘Wimbledon Library’ in the Forest. They had to create their own library card by writing their name and drawing a self-portrait. When they arrived at the library, they selected which books they wanted to check out. The children immersed themselves in roles and created back stories and plot lines with possibilities of how the play could continue. The librarians were very strict with no extending of the deadlines - they meant business! Thankfully the library cafe was open next door so the books could be read in peace and quiet whilst waiting for your hot drink and meal.
