More about me!
This week we have noticed subtle changes in the aesthetic of our forest as Autumn is soon to arrive, with leaves beginning to reveal shades of gold and blackberries ripening on the bushes. We have had a mixture of weather conditions this week, but the children show resilience, confidence, happiness, and curiosity in their surroundings, whether rain or shine!
We have continued with our theme of ‘All About Me’ this week and the children have enjoyed using a range of different media to create representations of their own faces, including cardboard, paint, yarn, string, buttons, and clay. It has been fascinating to watch the children select various colours, tools, and materials, as well as apply different techniques to let their creativity flow. We are always striving to facilitate children’s unique learning styles, to encourage their self-expression, and help foster a sense of pride at what they have created – and what wonderful creations there have been!
During our morning snack time, we sing our “Good Morning Song” to help our new children become more familiar with the other children and educators and to encourage them to say their own name on their turn. We also love to hear the children share stories about their weekends, some having visited their Grandparents, others having gone to a local farm and others expressing they enjoyed “Mummy Daddy time at home”. Further questions we ask the children are “What’s your favourite colour and why?”, “How old are you?”, “What do you like to cook/eat at home?”, and “Do you have any brothers or sisters?” to highlight and celebrate each child’s individual personalities, likes and family dynamic.
Water play has also been a popular activity this week, with the kids having loads of fun splashing toy animals in the tray and making noises to match such as roaring as a lion, grunting as a hippo and trumpeting like an elephant! The children also practiced their construction and teamwork skills when using the mud kitchen equipment to experiment with shifting liquid between different containers.
Our little explorers have done fantastic balancing, climbing and imaginative play when on our adventure walks too, and have been excitedly pointing out nature’s gifts of creepy crawlies, moss, bird nests, and acorns. Our reading corner on site also contains nature inspired content to develop the children’s awareness, care, and love for our world.
It has been another fantastic week and we can’t wait to see what next week brings!
