With spring in the air and sunshine in the sky, this week has been so much fun in the forest!
We have had flowers blooming throughout the forest which have helped our children to learn about the lessons of spring and what it does to the forest around us. We have been noticing the different bugs and creatures that are around, specifically the bees that are coming out, and seeing which flowers they go onto to get their food. Seeing how much our children notice about the bugs they see and the environment around them, shows how much knowledge they gain from being in the forest.
It’s not just the bugs that have been seen this week, but we have also had a visit from a rather large frog! The mud kitchen is the perfect spot for frogs with the damp mud and the stream running through. They hide under the little bridge and our children love searching underneath to see what the frog’s home is like. The children have shown a real interest in what the frog’s home is like and we have been using books to show them some more information on the life of a frog. They really take on board the new information and then talk about it with their friends.
Reading and word games have been a big part of our week at Wimbledon. Our children have enjoyed many games which involve finding the letter that a word starts with. We have alphabet tree cookies which our children have enjoyed putting in the correct order and then mixing up to see if they can find the right letter after. It’s great to see them use the letters in a fun way but still learning at the same time.
Our tool work has also been a big hit this week! Some of our children had the great task of helping Katarina to build a bird box. They used a hammer and nails to attach all of the sides together. We spoke about our rules for tool use and the safety that needs to be in place to use tools, one of these being wearing goggles to make sure their eyes are safe. It was lovely to watch the care that the children put into making things in the forest and how amazingly well they listen to the rules and instructions that are given.
Every day is a day for creating in the forest and there is always something new to make. Our children continue to amaze us with the knowledge that they gain and take onboard, and then passing their knowledge onto their friends. Forest knowledge never ends!
We hope you all have really wonderful weekends!
