Wimbledon - Icicle's and Ice Medals!

An icicle week in the forest at Wimbledon! The bunnies and foxes have coped so fabulously in the colder weather, and we are so proud of them.

The children’s learning and play have been orientated around the cold and changes in the environment. They have also enjoyed spotting lots of differences to the plants and ground on their walk into the forest. Our Foxes decided to conduct an experiment where they created ice medals! The children selected treasures to put inside the cookie trays and used measuring cups to pour water into each pocket. The next day they enjoyed holding and watching the ice medals sparkle in the sunlight. It was a huge success! The experiment inspired many conversations about the properties of materials and changes of matter and we also spoke about the freezing temperature of water and mud.

Both groups enjoyed adventure walks this week to keep warm. One of the adventures the children loved whilst walking was collecting sticks and logs for den building. They worked together to safely transport the sticks… until the wagon got stuck! Everyone communicated very well to manoeuvre it out and the den was built - Christmas tree branches were placed on top of the roof to keep everyone warm in the cold and rain. Then, our little explorers used some Christmas tree branches to plant a garden next to their den, before finally (once that was completed) making some delicious pizza and pasta in the mud kitchen for the builders and landscapers to enjoy!
