This week has been a fantastic week; the temperature has increased ever so slightly so the children have enjoyed observing the frost melt into water which has led to some fantastic muddy play!
Bunnies and Foxes are always prepared for the mud - they love getting muddy! Having so much mud available has meant that the mud kitchen is the hottest place in camp! The vast amount of mud we have in base camp has stimulated lots of role play, especially hospitality. The children have enjoyed making sweet treats for their friends and educators. As we’re in the run up to Christmas, our little explorers have had Christmas themed areas too with the help of a cardboard Christmas tree brought in by one of our educators. The children have been able to explore the different textures and materials in their play; using resources and finding which liquid or solid can be filtered through!
Another big highlight of our week has been Christmas tool work! Our educators organised a hammering session for everyone to get involved in. The Foxes and Bunnies had the opportunity to hammer a nail into a board to create an outline of a Christmas tree, which they then were able to weave green string and yarn around. The children showed their amazing listening skills to follow the instructions, and it was amazing to see the little ones who found the children’s hammer a little heavy, create a solution themselves! It was a great activity for our Little Forest Folk-ers to focus and improve their precision, some even had the skill to hit the nail on the head every time!
