This week at Wimbledon we have enjoyed signs of spring popping up all around us and the children have spent so much time looking for bugs and insects in the forest. They have been really interested in worms and ant eggs, using their own handmade binoculars to see what else they could find. We used recycled toilet roll tubes and tape to make our binoculars, and they were then used to spot birds, insects and even some aeroplanes!
We have also been testing our fine motor skills by using tweezers to pull out paper “worms” from the mud. We then compared the lengths of them, and this inspired us to look for real worms. We found so many and had a great time comparing the lengths of them all, and the children were very excited when they found an extra long one!
There have also been lots of chances to look at the flowers that have come through this week, showing us even more signs of spring. The daffodils, snowdrops and blossom are all slowly appearing and this is creating lovely conversations about spring and the life cycle of flowers.
It’s been a lovely week full of exciting finds and wonderful conversations. Let’s see what next week brings!
