Wimbledon - Bug Hunts and Treasure Maps!

Bug hunts and treasure maps!

As the seasons change the forest is beginning to fill with all new animals for our little ones to spot. There are bunnies hopping on the meadow, buzzing bees and an amazing array of birds to be found. Every morning on walk ins the children gather standing quietly and listen to all the sounds around them, with the most exciting being woodpeckers! More and more the foresters are taking time for quiet reflection and to listen to all the sounds around them.

There has also been a lot more insects seen which has inspired many bug hunts. Using magnifying glasses our little ones have been looking under logs and in leaf litter to see what they can find. This has inspired play all throughout the week from independent bug hunts on site, reading fact books about bugs and even drawing our own insects in the floor book.

Some children took a trip to the moon this week. Here they learnt all about the different planets and what makes an astronaut. After dancing to some mystical music, the children had a chance to make their own planets. We all enjoyed learning about something new and continued to talk to one another

Further we have all been loving adventure walks this week. There is so much to explore and learn from spending time in the forest. One group of children took litter pickers with them and nearly filled a whole wagon with rubbish they found. All the little ones worked so well together and were so proud of how they were helping clean up their forest. They even named themselves the “clean-up crew”.

This Thursday was St Patricks day and we had so much fun celebrating. There was face paints, play dough and making shamrock necklaces. But the most exciting part was the treasure hunt. To start with we got to go on a very exciting treasure hunt, following clues the children found a map which led them to a pot of gold!

Another fantastic week in the Wimbledon Forest!
