Our Week in the Forest...
Books, bamboo and banana bakes.
This week has been full of fun and exciting adventures. The rain may have fallen down on us a lot, but it never dampens our spirits!
We started off our week building a new house from bamboo. The children all helped to move the long bamboo poles and place them where they thought would be best to begin the structure of the house. They opted for a large square house, using rope to tie the bamboo together at the corners, leaving one part open so there was a door for our friends to enter through. Throughout the week this house has been a main focus of play, with children adding to it each day. We have added seats inside, a slide down the side and even an area for a bathroom! It has been fun watching the children use their imagination to build what they think the perfect house would look like, and them all working together to help everyone’s ideas come to life.
The fire came alive again this week and we experimented making banana bread with Spike. Each child took it in turns to add the ingredients and mix it together, and when it was finally ready they added it to the cake tin. We all waited patiently to see the end result and when it finally cooked the children were able to reap the rewards, all having a little taste.
Wednesday was World Wildlife Day and the children spent the time looking at books about the different wildlife around us, some children spent their time looking at the bugs and birds that we have flying and crawling where we play. Sam and a small group of children found a spider hiding near the bamboo and this led to conversations of why and where they build their homes and what we can do to protect them. This showed a calming nature that our children have and their understanding of the need to care for the things around us.
Thursday was World Book Day which gave us the perfect opportunity to take some of our children to the library and discover the large array of books that were on offer to us. The children each got to choose a story that they wanted to read and they all took their time over this important decision. We sat in small groups in the library reading the stories that had been chosen and everyone got to discuss the parts that they know, or what they thought might happen next. We all talked about the rules of the library and our children showed their understanding of respecting rules and those around us.
It has been a busy week, full of new adventures and exciting discoveries. We look forward to seeing what the next week will bring!
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
