Wimbledon - Bees!

This week we welcomed some of our Holiday Campers back, and it was so lovely to see so many familiar faces as well as lots of new ones!

We always try to incorporate lots of tool work into our forest life, and this has been no different this week. With the lovely sunny weather, we have noticed lots of bees flying around and the children began talking about where they lived. One of our amazing educators explained that some bees are solitary, so they don’t have a hive like other bees. This led to the children helping to make a bee hotel! They used a hand drill to make holes in a pallet which the bees could then go into when they needed a home. This also links with us previously making a bug hotel, bird houses and worm houses!

With some older children joining us in the forest, we have also spoken about things that they learn at school, and our Little Forest Folk-ers who are heading off to big school in September have been very interested in this.

In another activity, some of the children spent some time looking at different shapes, using lollipop sticks and twigs to create different shapes themselves. We have also been looking at letters and using tweezers to pick up foam letters to match to words.

It has been great for the older children to share their knowledge with the younger ones, and for our younger ones to share their forest and activities they enjoy!

A fantastic first week of Spring Holiday Camp and we look forward to next week!
