Winter really hit this week with the cold days starting and icy mornings welcoming us to the forest. The children were very excited by the idea of ‘Elsa’ visiting and spreading frost across the forest! We explored the ice-covered puddles, looking at the different shapes that the cracked ice had formed. We also spent time trying to fish out the ice and look through it, noticing how clear it was and pretending each piece was a window.
To keep warm this week we used the Kelly kettle to make delicious tea! The children helped one of our educators to put the fire together and then we watched and listened to signs that it was ready. We waited for a loud whistle and that’s when we knew it was ready to be poured.
A lot of our activities this week have involved moving around to keep nice and warm, so playing out on the meadow was the perfect place! The children enjoyed lots of musical games to dance around and warm up, as well as chase games and exploring the space. We looked at the frozen jelly mushrooms and listened to the crunch of the leaves. The children have also helped to feed the little birds around our forest by spreading our bird seed. We made sure to put it in places they could reach and even got to hand feed some of the robins!
A cold and frosty week, full of fun and adventure!
