This week has been a true example of the what the winter months will bring. We have had beautiful winter sun and misty meadows.
This week, a lot of children are starting to talk about festivals they will celebrate in the coming month - especially Christmas! Poppy, our manager, organised a green activity for the children. They practised using scissors to snip the edges of green card shaped like Christmas trees. Some used one hand, others used two hands to achieve this very precise skill. Poppy had prepped a box of decorative string, the children chose their favourites and started to weave across the tree just like tinsel and lights. They focussed on their coordination and dexterity to ensure that the string weaved into the slits they had cut!
To continue weaving as a focus, on inset day Rebecca, Arron and Anamika built a structure, where the children then used the willow branches that had fallen from the trees to weave. This structure has been a prison, a fence and a park! A fantastic structure to open the world of role play for our children.
Amongst the sunshine, we’ve seen new lows in temperatures and the children have coped tremendously! The foxes have been chasing the sun by using the meadow lots in-between meal times. The children were introduced to ‘throw the ball off the tarp’ game, where they held onto handles and shook it until the ball flew off! Heads up team, the soft ball could land anywhere! It brought such joy to children and staff! They started to predict the direction it would fly too, then placing buckets to aim for.
Finally, to end our week the children enjoyed a frosty morning where their senses were overjoyed . With every step came a crunch, it wasn’t long until we found some ice and enjoyed smashing it with our little feet!
