This week we have had a great week in the forest in the sunshine and rain!
Red team have been busy making a mud volcano which they added some rocks to, to give a stoney magma effect.
Red team have also been very keen to re-enact the lion king film, and so they have been engrossed in lion king role play, with the children taking roles of all the different animals. We have incorporated some of the lion king soundtrack into this role play to give the children the full experience and children singing Hakuna Matata could be heard from all parts of the forest!
Also this week, red team enjoyed climbing on the pirate climbing ropes that were set up between two trees. The children tested their balance and bravery, and did their best not to get caught by the crocodiles swimming in the water below.
Ciaran carried out a lovely planting activity this week where we planted some coriander and lettuce seeds into individual growing pots. We’re looking forward to monitoring their progress and watching them grow – and maybe even making something delicious with them when they’re ready!
Green team have also enjoyed a busy week – on Tuesday, we found a baby toad in camp! We enjoyed observing him, wondering where he had come from and what he might be doing in our camp, before we moved him to a nice dark, damp area out of harm’s way. We then sung the “5 little speckled frogs” song, but turned it into toads.
Green team have enjoyed role playing various games too, but their games have been based around the wooden den in camp. One of the main favourites has been a police style role play, where “baddies” are put in the wooden den prison. The children have worked together in teams to catch the baddies, before tying them up to make sure there was no way to escape.
We have also enjoyed rope activities, using a tree pulley system to get a bucket up and down the ropes. The children tested the weight of different items, figuring out whether a bucket full of leaves was heavier or lighter than a bucket full of stones and how a bucket full of water meant if you stood right under it you might get very wet!!
Green team also enjoyed a lengthy adventure walk around the lake, followed by a visit to the muddy hill, which because of all the hot weather was actually very dry! The children observed how the mud had cracked and wrinkled and we looked to see if we could spot any old, dried up footprints.
This week we sadly said goodbye to three more children who are off to big school! We will miss them but we wish them all the best on their next adventure.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend!
