Another incredible week in the forest at Twickenham. We have jumped, galloped, splashed, mixed, leaped and sang all week long!
We started the week off by making some multi-coloured play doh, we carefully measured and weighed and sorted ingredients and even sang some songs as we mixed it all together.
We also had cowboys galloping around another corner of our forest with lassos made of string: panning for gold and building a shelter out of sticks. We practised our lassoing skills around large branches and sticks – yeehaw!
There was a forest supermarket in our mud kitchen too, full of empty cardboard cereal and egg boxes (this was our recycling which meant that our eco council was very pleased) and canvas bags for all our shopping. Our Little Forest Folk-ers took it in turns to work on the till scanning all the items their friends had bought. This encouraged a lot of role-play where Mummy and Daddy headed home with their shopping to cook the dinner.
Our favourite book this week has been a classic, ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We even had a go at retelling the story ourselves using the pictures in the book to help us. These were then folded up and made into our own little stories with beautifully designed front covers.
The muddy puddles were utterly amazing this week and we enjoyed making dams out of wooden planks, collecting and pouring lots of water into different sized containers and stomping and sploshing. The mud was superb for making mud paints too.
It has been a musical week this week as well with our boom whackers and bells. We explored all the different sounds they made and sang along to the music we were making. We also had lots of fun singing and dancing along to a rig-a-jig-jig with our educators and doing the penguin salute song too!
Den building and obstacle courses are always a huge part of every week at our forest, creating different stories around the planks and crates we put together. This week our course even had a slide at the end, straight into the muddiest puddle we could find. The children were challenging themselves to climb the ladder with support from one of our educators and were great at balancing along the slippery planks. We noticed incredible teamwork - we have some fantastic builders and architects here at Twickenham.
Some of our Little Forest Folk-ers wanted to make special presents for their brothers and sisters too this week. We drew pictures and threaded beads as gifts. We also got to explore shapes and puzzles and showed our mathematical skills by counting sticks into toilet paper tubes with numbers on.
We also started to get into the spooky spirit of things with potion making and casting spells. Sticks were wrapped in wool and ‘Abracadabra, Abracadee, I turn my friend into a tree!’.
We continued to talk about our teeth and even sang a song about waking up every morning to brush them, it’s become a forest favourite. We hope you all have wonderful weekends and see you next week!
