The children have had another marvellous week in the forest and the variety of different weather we have experienced have given them plenty of opportunities to explore our environment.
The beginning of the week, the children enjoyed a splashing competition as the rain came tumbling down above us. It was great to see our new friends enjoying the water so happily and lapping up the learning opportunities it provided them. Some of our Little Forest Folk-ers made the ultimate mud pie, ensuring they got the right mud to water ratio, discussing as we mixed about the mixture getting thicker and thicker. Once we had finished, the children enjoyed flipping it out of the bowl to see the pleasing shape it had created! Mud truly is magical.
After our wet day, some of our friends ventured back to the cricket club to enjoy some DIY! The children were great at using the allen key to put a new bookshelf together ready to store our books when we come inside.
Later in the week, the children engaged in some weaving. First, they did an amazing job decorating a net that Libby had made before our little explorers ventured onto camp. We collected different resources such as yellow leaves, brown ferns and some chlorophyll changing sycamores. The children expressed how “beautiful” the result were, and it was magical to see how proud they were of their creation. In the afternoon the children enjoyed using multiple-coloured ribbons and wool to weave through a frame. It was wonderful to watch as the children showed great dexterity and patience pulling the colours under and over the string. We will continue to weave through our frame over the next few weeks until it is bursting with colours!
Throughout the week, the children have continued to keep their eagle eyes on the lookout for minibeasts. The wet weather encouraged our slimier friends to come out and say hello and the children enjoyed watching slugs sliver across the forest floor, closely examining its feelers, and breathing holes. We also enjoyed watching a family of woodlice resting on a log whilst some others scurried along, the children absorbed in observing their tiny legs move so quickly.
We hope all our lovely families have a lovely weekend and we cannot wait to see what our next week in the forest has in store for us!
