Jubilant Jubilee!
Twickenham had all the festive vibes this week with Platinum Jubilee bunting hanging around the forest, our resident little majestic queens and young noble kings joyfully commemorating this historical event, and our guests of honour: the Holiday Campers joining us for lots of great fun!
A magnificent queen’s parade kicked off our celebration, where a musician who was playing our new percussion instrument called ‘shekere’ led the marching band around the palace forest grounds. Royal dinners and tea parties were then held on a grand table made from crates covered with regal purple felt. Arts galore were also a huge part of our festivity, as our crafters created a castle made from recycled boxes and kitchen tube rolls with lots of interesting features in it: massive doors and windows with fancy curtains, fridge full of food, swimming pool with lifeguards, red carpet for the queen, and fire and burglar alarms. Our little artists also painted the Union Flag and learnt about its colours; and made some nature puzzles with the queen’s outline as their guide. We also read the book ‘The Queen’s Jubilee, a story about the tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
Coincidentally, Miranda just planted an apple tree on our site using a special tool called an ‘augre’, and our eco warriors joined in and made use of their green thumb by patting down the soil and watering it. To culminate our celebration, we had a fabulous Jubilee Party at the meadows where we were treated like royalty and had a variety of special cheese and biscuits, served with mint tea!
From all of us in Twickenham, have a Jubilant Jubilee long weekend!
