Twickenham - Focusing on Mental Health!

This week in the forest, we’ve been embracing the themes of family, friendship, and togetherness, alongside exploring the wonderful changes happening in the world around us as the seasons shift.

Exploring the Changing Seasons
Our focused activities involved mixing colours to reflect the beautiful transformation of the autumn leaves. The children experimented with yellow and red to recreate the stunning shades of autumn. These hands-on activities sparked rich discussions about the life cycle of trees and the seasonal changes we experience during both autumn and spring.

This curiosity led to a variety of colour-mixing experiments. From whipping water and chalk to exploring the textures of paint and foam, our Little Forest Folk-ers observed and delighted in the fascinating changes before their eyes.

Celebrating Families and Friendships
Throughout the week, we also explored the importance of family and friends. Our little adventurers proudly shared stories about their loved ones, discussing where they were born and how their families came to live in England. Our educators joined in as well, sharing their own family stories.

The children’s curiosity took them to the book corner, where they researched different countries and learned about the various ways families live around the world. These discussions fostered a deeper understanding of the unique and diverse backgrounds that make up our community.

Developing Skills Through Play
With many of our little ones in the forest, we created plenty of opportunities to strengthen both fine and gross motor skills. Our little explorers climbed “mountains” (as they liked to call them!) and crafted their own obstacle courses, giving them the chance to run, balance, shuffle, and explore movement in a fun and engaging way.

Focusing on Mental Health
To close the week, we introduced a discussion about mental health and how to keep our minds happy and healthy. The children shared their feelings about their friends and worked together to come up with ideas on how to manage big emotions. This was a wonderful opportunity for them to learn about self-awareness and the importance of emotional well-being.

Thank you all for another fantastic week in the forest. We’re excited to see you next week for more adventures!
