Putney Heath - Life Skills!

This week, our theme has been Life Skills, and our adventurers have been diving into a world of practical learning!

We kicked off the week with a focus on fastenings! Hanging up coats to practise using poppers, buttons, and zips—essential skills for the future. The children embraced each challenge, mastering the fine art of zipping up their coats and snapping poppers into place, helping each other along the way.

One of the highlights of the week was setting up our very own forest laundromat! With a fantastic role-play area full of washing machines and laundry lines, our children washed clothes, bedding, socks, and hats. Once the laundry was clean, they hung it up to dry and ironed out all those pesky creases. In our creative zones, they got to work making their own mud kitchen detergent, experimenting with colours and measures, and even designed their own detergent labels! Splashing about in the mud kitchen while taking laundry orders was a perfect mix of fun and learning.

In addition to laundry, we’ve also been exploring the fascinating world of road safety and car mechanics. The forest garage was in full swing as our young mechanics refilled petrol and diesel engines, pumped up tires, and cleaned those grease marks. Our small-world play area transformed into a bustling city with toy cars, traffic lights, and zebra crossings, helping the children learn to stop for red lights and cross safely at the green man.

On a day dedicated to personal hygiene, we practised blowing noses with puppet friends, set up a tooth-brushing station to master proper brushing techniques, and had a washing-up zone for all those dirty dishes!

It’s been an amazing week filled with real-life skills, role play, and plenty of forest fun. The children have been learning about the many different things they will do as they grow, all while enjoying our beautiful outdoor environment.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend!
