March is a rambunctious time for our Little Forest Folk-ers when dealing with the elements and this week we have been stripping off our waterproofs to enjoy some glorious sunshine.
We kicked off the week encouraging our fluttering friends to join us in our camp by creating beautiful butterfly art work using black card and tissue paper which the beaming sun shone through. The children also enjoyed using the tissue paper in other ways, scrunching it up and sticking it to the black card or drawing on the tissue paper which they soon realised required great delicacy as the tissue paper was extremely fragile.
The children also enjoyed adding an upgrade to their camp, adding a ladder to our climbing tree. The children found the right sized sticks to fit the area and with the help of Celine, lashed the sticks to the frame. Finding the last stick proved tricky so we got the saw out and cut one which was the perfect length! The children have enjoyed challenging themselves with the new ladder and one child has expressed “it’s like a whole new camp!” when talking about our awesome new addition.
Mid week, Libby told us all about the encounter she had with what she thought was a dragonfly on camp the previous day when all the children had gone home. It turned out not to be a dragonfly, but a fluttering fairy who was feeling rather frazzled. Libby retold the tale that the fairy had been sad because they had lost their home. The fairy was quickly reassured as Libby told her all about the wonderful friends we have at Little Forest Folk Twickenham who would be happy to make the fairies a brand new home!
The children quickly got to work, using magical fairy paints to decorate little fairy houses! We used small pots, big pots and little bird houses which would be ideal for our fairy friends. We also made some pretty windmills as the fairy requested lots of colour and these would help to entice more fairies to come and live in their new home.
Some children also decorated some wind chimes to add to the garden and we have enjoyed listening as they tinker in the gentle spring breeze.
One child felt the fairies needed a swing and we found the perfect sticks to lash together to create a miniature swing for our miniature friends. The next day, the swing had disappeared! Some children suggested perhaps the fairies took it to their other home or maybe they felt the swing was too high so decided they didn't want it? Not to worry! Because our fabulous Forest Folk-ers were happy to make a new one!
We hope you have all enjoyed the sunshine as much as we have, we cannot wait to see what next week brings us, both weather wise and the start of a brand new month. April here we come!
