Ahead of International Friendship Day on Sunday, this week we have been choosing our favourite stories showcasing ‘Friendship’
“A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside.” – Winnie the Pooh
We of course had to start our week by introducing Winnie the Pooh and Friends to our Little Forest Folk-ers. Making our very own honeybees was the aim at the craft table, wrapping yellow and black string around different sized pine cones which moved onto creating miniature campfires where we role played sitting around and telling stories.
It wouldn’t be storytelling week without one of our favourites Julia Donaldson. On Wednesday we were lucky enough to spot a big broomstick where the children flew through the forest, picking up their friends on the way, just like the witch in ‘room on the broom.’ Our reading area was set up for adventures across the ocean with the unlikely friendship of ‘the snail and the whale,’ we travelled through thunderstorms and sunshine to reach our destinations which varied from Tenerife to China.
Over at the craft table our Little Forest Folk-ers were amazed by our paper doll chains, they worked together to decorate the dolls using pens, paint and stickers, then happily showcased off their work letting us know “the dolls are holding hands”.
We have made lots of time for some forest tool work too, ranging from sawing, cutting down branches with the loppers and the favourite of the week, hammering beautiful leaf prints onto canvas. Our little adventures love taking on board all the important instructions about tool safety and are quick to make sure their friends do the same.
It’s been a wonderful week talking all about friendship, we look forward to seeing you all next week!
