Putney Heath - New friends and new experiences!

The children at Little Forest Folk Putney Heath have had a wonderful August start this week as they have reunited with friends, formed new friendships and engaged in lots of enriched learning experiences.

On Monday, the children were thrilled to arrive in the forest to find that they were able to play with some familiar faces. It was wonderful to watch the children playing together, grateful to discuss their ideas with new listening ears and to also have new perspectives in their role play.

At the start of the week, Sarune kindly bought in her special rock and crystal collection to show the children, sparking conversations about where the rocks came from and their different names. The children were mesmerised by the beautiful colours and sparkle of the rocks and with the help of an identification book were able to find out where the rocks came from.

Throughout the week the Little Forest Folk-ers have been getting extremely creative, using sticky tape to spell out their names and decorating these with natural materials they could find around the forest. Some children also took inspiration from one of our books in the forest called “Sylvie” – a flamingo who changes colour depending on what she eats. The children were eager to draw the variety of objects which Sylvie found and also Sylvie as her multi-coloured self! The children have also enjoyed getting creative with the clay, creating hedgehogs and using different materials around the forest to form the spikes and facial features!

The children have also had new physical challenges in the forest with an awesome spiderweb being set up. The children have been amazing at manoeuvring their bodies around the ropes and also their friends who are also trying to reach the top! It is wonderful to see how proud they are of their achievements when they accomplish their challenge.

Our Little Forest Folk-ers have also been busy in the mud kitchen, exploring the different substances they can make with water and the materials the forest provides, making potions, soups and even baby food to support their role play! The children have also been fascinated by the way that water moves around the forest floor, noticing it slither like a snake down the natural slopes rather than sink into the mud. Other children decided to use the planks to make a bridge as the water formed a river.
