Mini Mycologists
The feel of Autumn is definitely with us with the beautiful crisp mornings and foggy fields becoming more frequent this week. The children have been great at adapting to the colder temperatures, getting cosy in their waterproofs and other warm clothes if they feel they need them.
We started the week bumping into some more forest friends on our way into camp, those who have a shell on their backs and a slimy line left in their trails. The children also noticed that the snails were very small and they enjoyed observing them move in small motions.
The wetter ground of our forest has provided the perfect habitat for new life in the forest and the children have not let this escape their curious minds. Mushrooms have been popping up under brambles, latching onto logs and clustering in crevasses and the children have enjoyed observing the variety of different colours, sizes and textures of the mushrooms. This has also bought up multiple child led conversations around our 'no picking and no licking' rule and it has been wonderful to see the children repeating this whilst looking closely at the fungi's features.
We finished off the week appreciating the wonderful leaf litter on the ground, feeling grateful for the new resources our beautiful natural environment has provided us. The children enjoyed collecting the leaves noticing their different colours and sizes. We then bought them to camp where we got creative with our wonderful new chalk pens, creating beautiful patterns with the best canvas!
We hope you all have a glorious weekend and we cannot wait to continue watching our ever changing setting provide us with more learning opportunities next week.
