The weather was not in our favour this week but, like any other week, that did not stop the magic!
The little ones have been focusing on measuring this week and it started by measuring the lengths of sticks and other natural materials found in the forest. With tape measures in hand, the children sorted through different lengths of sticks and leaves, documenting their sizes along the way. Not only were the Little Forest Folk-ers using the counting and numeracy skills, but they were also using amazing descriptive language such as long or short, and big, medium and small.
The educators planned a plethora of measuring activities not limited to looking at the size of objects. The little ones had the chance to measure liquids as well. Using beakers and pipettes, the children poured water and food dye into bottles. They added a bit of glitter and voila… their very own sensory bottles for the calm down corner. The children were so very proud of their efforts and could not wait to pop them in the tent!
Some afternoons had to be spent indoors this week, but the children adapted quickly! They practised their emergency evacuations which lead to discussions about how we can keep ourselves safe. The children reflected on London’s community helpers who help us in emergency situations.
The little adventurers are very keen footballers at the moment. They are kicking, dribbling and scoring all day in the forest. This has been a brilliant opportunity for them to develop their team building skills. They love to split into teams and see who can score the most goals before lunch!
Although the children show kindness to one another every day, World Kindness Day was extra special. The children spent the day working together, offering an extra cuddle when needed and spoke so beautifully to each other!
