Putney Heath - Weather Cycle Project!

Following on from last week’s theme, we’ve continued to embrace the glorious natural world around us. Our days have been starting with flower hunts to create beautiful natural vases and wristbands, which the children proudly wore and displayed around camp. Among our discoveries were vibrant flowers like Rosebay Willowherb, Curly Dock, Water Smartweed, plus acorns and conkers, adding a splash of colour to our creative endeavours.

We’ve also delved into the world of natural table settings, collecting fabrics around camp, conkers, and sticks to decorate a communal table. The children gathered round the log table and shared a feast of imaginative delights from our mud kitchen, enjoying the sense of community and creativity.

Our adventurers have been full of energy, using stones and sticks to inspire playful games throughout the forest. Whether it was a game of capture the flag (or rather, stick) or hide-and-seek stone, the children’s imaginations have truly run wild.

This week, we’ve also started an exciting weather cycle project using tree cookies. The children have been painting them in colours that represent different types of weather, from sunshine to rain, snow to clouds. This project has been a wonderful way for the children to explore and associate colours with different natural elements. Over the coming week, we’ll be incorporating tool work, using hammers, to bring this creative project to life.

To finish off the week, the arrival of rain brought new adventures, from mini beast hunts to splashing in newly formed puddles. The rain has rejuvenated our forest, and we’ve all admired the rich changes in colour and texture it brought to the natural landscape.

It’s been a wonderful week of exploration, creativity, and appreciation for the beauty around us. We look forward to another exciting week ahead!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
